Dear ABWA CCC,
Here we are, wrapping up 2015, planning for another exciting and memorable year. Let me start by saying how thankful I am for each and every member and their contributions to this organization, including our Board & Committee Members. It is all of you that make ABWA CCC such a wonderful organization to be a part of. Due to the hard work of so many, we were able to make our first anniversary year a stunning success! We not only made a difference in the lives of our individual members and guests through our Women’s Leadership Conference, Educational and Inspiring Lunch Programs, Networking Socials, and Recognition, but we were also able to give back to our community by participating in fundraisers for Dress for Success and Metropolitan Center for Women & Children. We also achieved our goal to fund our first SBMEF Scholarship, which will be awarded in May 2016.
The Board has recently approved some noteworthy changes. Beginning in 2016, each guest will have an opportunity to attend three registered events in a calendar year before being asked to join. Also, our new members will receive an electronic PDF version of the Welcome Packet. Lastly, we are excited to be adding a Member Spotlight feature. The selected member will be featured on our website, in our newsletter, and will have the opportunity to present herself to the attendees of one of our luncheons. This is just another way we want to support you. Members will be selected at random.
Looking ahead, our Board will continue to work to fulfill the needs of our members while supporting our ABWA mission. It is our goal to ensure that we provide valuable programs in a fun and exciting environment. We are a “Grow You” organization with an emphasis on education and empowerment where we provide access to leadership, networking, and recognition opportunities – the three basic elements of career achievement. Delivering these opportunities is my passion and purpose for serving.
Once again, thank you, for making 2015 such a spectacular year. I am so very proud to serve as your President. I wish for each and every one of you a new year filled with all the joy and success you so desire. Remember, every accomplishment begins with the decision to try. This luncheon has passed.
The ABWA holiday networking luncheon will be held on December 10, 2015 from 11:00 -1:00 at Ralph Brennan’s Heritage Grill (111 Veterans Blvd.) We will welcome Ann R. Tuennerman, the founder of Tales of the Cocktail, who will be giving a spirited talk on the history of the Sazerac in New Orleans and her own challenges in starting the festival. Ann will also have a special “ABWA Cocktail” available for trying at the bar!
Ann Tuennerman (formerly Rogers), started New Orleans Original Cocktail Tour in September of 2002 and at the first anniversary celebration Tales of the Cocktail was born. It is recognized by the spirits industry as the world’s premier cocktail festival, but growing Tales of the Cocktail from a small tour in New Orleans into the international event it is today was rarely an easy task. Mistakes, roadblocks, and a certain devastating hurricane named Katrina all presented challenges, but Ann faced each with determination and perseverance, emerging stronger and more devoted than ever. Be sure and join us this December 10th for a special holiday Sazerac presentation. Enjoy a menu specially prepared for the holidays as you soak in the Sazerac’s storied history and all the info you need to make your own. It’s the perfect way to start celebrating the holiday season!

ABWA CCC is excited to announce its partnership with Metropolitan Center for Women and Children to support their efforts “To break the cycle of violence and aid survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking through advocacy, intervention, empowerment and transformation.”
Courtesy of Regions Bank, ABWA will be raffling off a pair beach cruiser bicycles at the end of our Holiday Luncheon on December 10, 2015 with 100% of proceeds being donated to METRO.
Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20.

American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) will welcome members of The Louisiana Film Industry, including Carol Morton of the Mayor’s Office for Cultural Development and Carol Bidault of Women in Film and Television, for a panel discussion at their next luncheon. The networking luncheon will be held on November 12, 2015 from 11:00 -1:00 at Ralph Brennan’s Heritage Grill (111 Veterans Blvd.) The event is open to all professional women, and attendees are encouraged to pre-register through
Carol Morton is head of Entertainment Industry Development for the Mayor’s Office for Cultural Development. Their mission is to create opportunities that enable true economic activity and growth. Carol Bidault de l’Isle is an award winning producer, who specializes in international motion picture/television financing, distribution, media asset acquisition and management. In 2010, Ms. Bidault moved to New Orleans, to open the new headquarters of MediaFusion Entertainment, LLC. She is currently producing “Road to Capri” with Virginia Madsen, Giancarlo Giannini; and “Twisted” with Sharon Stone.
Kim Hasney, VP of Programming said, “The film industry has become an important part of the local and statewide economy over the past decade. This will be an exciting discussion about the ways businesswomen here in the city can get involved ”.

As we approach our first year anniversary, October 17, I am extremely proud of our progress in such a short amount of time. We have been fortunate to present our membership and guests with dynamic speakers such as Desiree Young on “Crafting the Perfect Elevator Speech,” and Simone Bruni sharing her emotional struggles to ultimately becoming the “Demo Diva.” Let us not forget Erica Olson who taught us how to “Speak Simple” and how to prepare the appropriate presentation for any audience. Chris Burke educated us on “Women & Wealth” and how by 2030 women will account for 2/3 of U.S. Wealth. Kim Hasney, our VP of Programming, has searched far and wide to ensure that we are able to provide presentations that will be of benefit and great knowledge that you may apply to not only your professional, but personal life as well. In addition to our education component, we have grown membership to over 60 members in less than a year. These members make up a diverse group of women that collectively contribute to a greater productivity. Looking forward, we are ecstatic to be announcing our sponsorship of our first Impact Scholarship to be awarded in the Spring of 2016. This sponsorship will afford a deserving woman an opportunity to expand her education to ultimately grow into her best self. Through the help of Amy Landry with Willoz Consulting, we are launching our first ever Leadership Conference. This conference is designed specifically to help build confidence and credibility when communicating as a WOMAN in today’s business world. The materials learned through the conference can help you grow into being a more effective communicator and leader.
In addition to the above, ABWA is happy to announce its partnership with Dress for Success this coming Fall.
ABWA’s Awards Committee is working on program for next year to recognize so many of our members for their outstanding dedication to the organization and community.
Your Board is working tirelessly to ensure that we are serving the membership and community in the best way possible. Included in this newsletter is our feedback survey. Please tell us how we are doing and what we can do to serve you better.
